French 19th Century Painted and Gold Gilt Trumeau
A superb French 19th century trumeau with two gold gilt mirrors. Trumeaus are panels, often bearing mirrors and ornately decorated, that were placed between windows to introduce additional light into a room. The two gold gilt mirrors arranged on this piece are marvelously aged and retain their original mercury glass. The lower mirror has more plentiful foxing and the wood panel is embellished with brass cherubs.
