French 19th Century Walnut Louis XVI Armchair
A stunning Louis XVI armchair from 19th century France. This chair, which has recently been upholstered, is bedecked with exceptional carvings that can be found on nearly every inch of exposed walnut. The shaped back is crowned with a crest of crossed roses and foliage that rests atop the carved twisted ribbon and pearl and rod motif border. The arms and arm supports have foliate carvings and meet the apron at the joining dies, which have carved rosettes; a motif almost synonymous with the Louis XVI style. The legs are delicately turned and tapered with fluted carvings.
