Late 19th Century French Oil Painting

Late 19th Century French Oil Painting

A charming French oil painting from the end of the 19th century. The painting is of a blooming Magnolia liliiflora, known colloquially as the Japanese Magnolia, growing to the side of a road. The work is titled "Route de laou à St. Joban." This translates to "Road that leads to St. Joban." St. Joban is a small German town across the Rhine from the Alsace region of France. Short brushstrokes and heavily applied paint are present in this Impressionist work. Set in a beautiful gold gilt frame, this little landscape will bring joy to any wall. Signed by artist. Oil on wood board.
